Facebook status responses
September 8th, 2010 at 8:12 pm

I realized that there’s a way for me to tell how close I am with people on my Facebook. It lies in my reservation to disclose a really fucked up response (or rather, the lack thereof). For example:

Aericka SunBurns: Would you do ANYTHING to save a friend? How far would you go to protect someone?

What I wanted to put down was “I’d go so far as to end the life of someone of equal or lesser value. Guaranteed.” Mostly true, but mostly phrased to be humorous.

Aericka’s my good buddy JB’s sister. I think she’s really pretty and really nice, but I’m not about to admit my nonchalance about homicide to her. I’d totally put that response down for Didi (who I still maintain to be the perfect woman), but I’ve known her for over a decade.

I think censorship is a neat way to weed things out. G = Errybodee, NC-17 = Strictly for the Tardcore. Shrunken audiences, you know? I should try to get to know Aericka more when I come back to Houston. No hetero. I respect JB too much to make dishonorable advances towards his baby sister.

Wayne’s sister is still fair game though (in the most dishonorable way possible). But that’s because he’d totally okay it and maybe even be grossed out by it, which would be hilarious.

82 Reprised
September 7th, 2010 at 8:59 am

So it turns out my first wedding of the day isn’t an order (though I can’t say the same for the 6 that follow it). However, this does grant me some time to flesh out details on 82.

I haven’t thought of a coherent artist statement yet because I’ll have to make a real stretch to link the name to the work. The name 82 was inspired by the Blu-82 “Daisy Cutter” bombs. They were conventional, yet powerful enough to level a forest. I didn’t really give much thought to what the Blu-82 was, but I liked the image that appeared in my head when I thought “Blue 82!” I figured I could make a really neat picture out of a literal interpretation of those words (see the cover in my previous post).

The best I can do is to very literally theme my photos around the words of the title. 82 Photos that have relatively cold colour schemes. I plan to progressively warm them up as the book progresses (which is a subtle way of admitting that I don’t have enough photos to fill out the entire book as is.) I initially called it a best of collection because I figured that it would be comprised mostly of my older work. I realize now that I don’t have enough high resolution copies of my older work that could fit into the theme of the book. A cropped version of this photo is one that will be included near the beginning of the book. That’s one of only a handful of old photos that will be included in the photobook. (I don’t have to get release forms for the people I photograph, do I?)

I guess that means I’ve got to take seventy-odd photos that I deem print worthy in the next 3 months. Shit. I should get busy.

82 – To 2010 From Flat
September 7th, 2010 at 7:39 am

I’ve decided to try and get a set of Photos published. It’s really only a “set” in the loosest of terms. It’d more accurately be called a “Best of” Collection. I really haven’t taken that photo minor anywhere and it has kind of annoyed me.

I have a few “Beautiful Girl Pictorial Books” sitting on my coffee table. As the name implies, they’re photo books centered around pretty girls and fashion and things; it’s put out every trimester by my company’s Tokyo branch. I always take a copy when they put one out. Mostly to dress my coffee table, but also for a little bit of photo inspiration. However, since I rarely have models, most of the inspiring it did for me was in the page design area and it really wanted me to go out and publish my own photobooks.

So I’m planning to complete one by the end of this year called 82. I’ll speak more on it later, but for now I needa jet to work. Prospective cover:

Free Coffee if You can Afford it
September 4th, 2010 at 9:49 pm

Ben Folds has a song called “Free Coffee”. Well, truth be told, he has multiple songs called “Free Coffee”. The one that I’m talking about in particular is about special treatment he received when he was rich and famous. He talks about how he returned to obscurity and realized that all the little perks he used to enjoy had ceased to exist. Well, that song came to mind this afternoon.

Temporka
September 1st, 2010 at 4:59 pm

I was telling Jeremy the other day that I was thinking of starting a website called Cooking Brotha that would chronicle the culinary escapades of one tragically un-hip bachelor. I figured this would be a great idea since everytime we chat I always feel the need to inform him on what I’m having for lunch or dinner. I’ve had a few successes and a few failures, so I thought it’d be neat. My most recent meal I was proud of was Temporka (pork chops breaded in a manner so that the finished product resembles traditional Tempura, even though my Temporka is baked, not fried.) Recipe after the Jump!

Saipan Trip was Shit
August 27th, 2010 at 12:46 pm

So I had been putting off writing this for a the better part of the month now. Part of it was my usual bullshit excuses like being lazy or too busy, but the truth is I pretty much wrote the blog entry the morning after my first night in Saipan. Then other shit happened when I got back from Saipan that made me hesitant to talk about the entire trip. The only way I could talk about any of it is if I leave shit out and that paints an entirely different atmosphere of the trip than how it felt to me.

I think I’ll amend this post in a few years when I’m more free to not give a shit. The era of Dooce is in full effect afterall.

August 21st, 2010 at 1:02 am

I apologize for the retardation of the writing of my after post from Saipan, but man, that post is gonna be, like, really fucking long, retard style. Like, super retarded long. Lots of full-on retard shit happened to me. I got so drunk I think I could have been classified as legally… well, incompetent.

Also, I noticed this retarded shit. Fuck that.

Never a Subscriber to Bros before Hos
August 7th, 2010 at 9:50 pm

Totally ditched Warren at the beginning of the party last night to go escort Miss Thing up. I didn’t think it was a big deal because I thought mack daddy WARREN, of ALL PEOPLE, would feel where I’m coming from. He actually ended up waiting for me and saving a spot for me at a table. I felt like a total douchebag in between the few moments I wasn’t salivating over the visage of this girl in a dress.
