Well, it has been quite an interesting few days. I’d have said something but as I found out hours ago, dogs had chewed through my internet cable outside the house and it wasn’t simply the provider being stupid.
I like the saying, “May you live in Interesting Times”. I first heard of it in Drew Curtis’s It’s not News and it says that it’s a curse of Chinese origin. In contextual relation the book I gathered it from, it’s essentially wishing bad news upon people. Natural disasters, diseases, terrorist attacks, all make interesting times and, in a sense, interesting news. Contextually, that’s what it means, but interesting times isn’t necessarily limited to bad things; in that sense, the phrase has quite a bit of relevance to the past few days.
So, like I said, on Monday I went to do some photography to make up for a TON of missing work. I lost more than I thought I did it seems. I am SUPER bummed. But anyway, I drove way out past where I went last time. I think I ended up deep in the valley around Inarajan. Yeah, I didn’t find the music store again. Whaateveeeer. Anyway, I drove around and did some photography. As things usually turn out, I got a shit ton of photos but only a few good ones and only one I really liked (which I’ll post at the end of this deally here). I actually did a bit of sight seeing and had a beer while looking over the expanse of the valley. One day when I’m feeling particularly bad ass, I’ll go down and explore it, but at the moment, it was just beautiful and terrifying.
Anyway, the next day was the final interview with Alan, Erik and Take (pronounced Taki, but I refuse to spell it that way). Anyway, it all ended with me signing a contract. Everyone I meet at work is so ridiculously cool it’s great. I really hope I can do the work well because it’s just so rare to met up with so many cool people. Erik is technically my boss now I guess and he reminds me of a nice version of my old manager Bill at Autozone. Well he told me to report in at 9 the next morning to begin training. Awesome~ Well, 8:30 am on the way to the office my 4runner stalls and starts smoking from under the hood. Apparently the starter exploded. On paper that doesn’t make sense, but I think that explains the terrible sound I heard going on while I was driving. Anyway, I ring up respective contacts and catch a ride to work and get to enjoy being a pitiful joke on my first day.
Me and the other Newbie, J, got to learn at Blue Aster with Erik. At that chapel they’ve implemented a remote camera system reminiscent of an NFL replay controls. It’s gonna be one of those things that’s easy to figure out, but tough to perfect. The next day was more or less the same ish only I went to a different chapel with Tony. I actually sat through like three weddings and that’s two more than I’ve seen in my entire life prior (the other being the one I saw the day before). The ceremonies are very sweet and it’s really the kind of thing I like because the customers are gonna usually be in good moods (one would expect). Like, at Autozone, customers are usually coming in if something on their car messed up, so they won’t likely to be sunshine and lollipops. This job, the exact opposite. I love that.
Today (or rather, yesterday at this hour), Erik gave me the day off which I used to deal with internet tech support and get my car. I was kind of hesitant to take the offer because Tony said some shit to me yesterday that got me worried. He said something about the last guy getting fired during training because he wasn’t getting into the job and enthusing about the work. That’s the kind of ominous thing that just sticks in your head. When I was talking to Erik about Thursday, he asked me how I liked working with Tony and, don’t get me wrong, Tony is cool as hell and I honestly say that he reminds me of a more successful version of myself, but thinking back to that comment had me stammer when I replied to Erik. lmao Then Erik laughs and goes “oh?!” as if I had something bad to say about him, and no amount of me saying, “naw, he’s cool” is gonna erase that. The LAST thing I need is my boss thinking there’s gonna be issues between me and another co worker.
Hopefully I’m just being paranoid again, but hell. Anyway, I go in tomorrow at noon and I’ll be back at Blue Aster. I’ll actually be on the floor with a camera this time, so let’s hope that it goes well.
On that moodlet . . .
